In Milan, a group of tram drivers is accused of sharing photos of female passengers via WhatsApp, which may have been obtained from surveillance cameras. This was reported by The Guardian.

According to the investigation, the drivers allegedly exchanged images showing parts of women's bodies — including legs, thighs, breasts, and faces — accompanied by sexist and vulgar comments.

The Milan prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into at least one employee of the public transport company ATM on suspicion of unauthorized access to IT systems and hacking the surveillance system to obtain images of female passengers.

As part of the case, searches were conducted at the homes of five other male employees, and their mobile phones and other devices were seized.

All suspects have been suspended from work during the investigation.

The case began after a passenger on tram number 15 noticed a man in uniform viewing a WhatsApp group chat with similar images and comments on his phone. She recorded what she saw and passed the information to an activist who contacted the transport company ATM.

ATM stated that the company promptly initiated an internal investigation and is trying to clarify all circumstances of the incident, as well as verify the proper use of official systems and protect passengers and employees.

It has not yet been established whether the images came from the cameras of one tram or several, nor whether they were shared beyond the group chat.

Marco Maria Donzelli, president of the Lombardy branch of the Codacons organization, called the situation serious and noted that if the facts are confirmed, it could lead to both criminal and civil liability.
