The most famous event of his ministry was his participation in the Council of Ephesus in 431, where the teachings of Nestorius were condemned. Saint Cyril upheld the truth that Jesus Christ is both true God and true Man, and that the Most Holy Virgin Mary should be called Theotokos (God-bearer).
