Lyudmyla Saltan, who demanded $4,000 for making a decision, was dismissed from her position as a judge in Odesa
Judge Lyudmyla Saltan was dismissed from her position based on paragraph 3 of part six of article 126 of the Constitution of Ukraine — for committing a significant disciplinary offense, gross or systematic neglect of duties incompatible with the status of a judge and indicating her unsuitability for the position held.
The decision was made following the consideration of the submission by the Second Disciplinary Chamber of the High Council of Justice, which concluded the necessity of applying disciplinary sanction to the judge in the form of dismissal.
Case summary
In March 2023, Judge Lyudmyla Saltan offered a participant in a civil case to provide her with an unlawful benefit of 4,000 US dollars for making a decision in his favor. According to the investigation, the bribe was handed over on March 29, 2023.
As reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", in March 2026 the High Anti-Corruption Court found Lyudmyla Saltan guilty of bribery (part 3 of article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced her to 6 years imprisonment with confiscation of part of her property and a 3-year ban on holding positions in government bodies.
Case context
Previously, the High Council of Justice had temporarily suspended Lyudmyla Saltan from administering justice at the request of the Deputy Prosecutor General — head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Oleksandr Klymenko.
