High Anti-Corruption Court Verdict in the BRCT Concern Case: 7 Years Imprisonment and Confiscation for Million-Dollar Embezzlement
The High Anti-Corruption Court announced a guilty verdict in the case concerning the Concern of Broadcasting, Radio Communication, and Television (BRCT). The court found guilty the individuals accused of seizing and embezzling state property, committed as part of an organized group by prior conspiracy. On June 5, 2026, the High Anti-Corruption Court delivered a verdict imposing real prison terms and depriving the convicted of assets.
Embezzlement Scheme
According to the case materials, the accused were three key figures: the former director of the BRCT Concern, one of its employees, and the director of the private company LLC "Liga-Expert".
The court established that the embezzlement was carried out through contracts that were formally intended to serve the Concern's needs but in fact did not correspond to its economic interests. This is an example of diverting state funds to private entities' accounts under the guise of legitimate transactions.
The High Anti-Corruption Court found the defendants guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: misappropriation, embezzlement of property, or seizure thereof by abusing official position, committed on a particularly large scale. This article carries the severest punishment.
- Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: official forgery committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy (through Part 2 of Article 28).
Special attention in the verdict is drawn to the episode related to official forgery. Although the court established the guilt of the accused under Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they were exempted from serving punishment in this part due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
This once again emphasizes the importance of the promptness of judicial proceedings, as lengthy processes allow defendants to avoid responsibility for lesser crimes, even if they are part of a corruption scheme.
Sanctions and Confiscation in the BRCT Case
The High Anti-Corruption Court determined the punishment for the key participants in the corruption scheme at the Concern of Broadcasting, Radio Communication, and Television (BRCT).
The former director of the enterprise was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment. The other defendants—the Concern employee and the director of the private company—were each sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.
In addition to real prison terms, the court applied additional criminal-legal measures. The verdict provides for the full confiscation of the convicted persons' property, as well as deprivation of the right to hold positions in government bodies and state enterprises for up to 3 years.
The verdict will come into force in 30 days if no appeal is filed to the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
