Ukraine and Germany are agreeing to strengthen cooperation in the field of social policy, support for children, and mental health.

A delegation led by the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth of Germany, the Federal Government Commissioner for Children Marijke Wulf, arrived on an official visit to the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister Lyudmyla Shemelynets and the Deputy Minister for European Integration Ilona Havronska.

The parties discussed support for Ukrainians abroad, in particular women with children and orphaned children evacuated to Germany, as well as the development of assistance tools for families in Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to Ukrainians who are under temporary protection in Germany.

“Today, over 1.2 million Ukrainian citizens are under temporary protection in Germany, and it is important for us to maintain constant communication, support, and access to Ukrainian services with them. In this context, the Unity Center in Berlin has become an important tool for support and communication with our citizens,” said Ilona Havronska.

The Ministry of Social Policy also emphasized that one of the main challenges for Ukraine remains the mental health of children living under constant air raid alerts and war conditions.

Earlier, the Minister of Social Policy Denys Ulyutin stated that Ukraine wants to obtain data about its citizens in the EU to prepare for their return.

The government also explained how they are preparing for the return of Ukrainians from abroad.

In turn, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated that it seems to him that the state finds it easier to talk about attracting foreigners than to systematically work on making Ukrainians want to return home.
