Three years have passed since the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant by Russian troops. On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the exact number of dead and the full scale of the disaster's consequences remain unknown. At the same time, the ministry emphasized that Russia must be held accountable for this crime.

“Three years ago, Russia destroyed the dam of the Kakhovka HPP, causing one of the largest man-made environmental disasters in Europe in recent decades. Vast territories were flooded, the Kakhovka reservoir was destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of people were left without access to drinking water. This crime also threatened the stable operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant – the largest nuclear power plant in Europe,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

The ministry also drew attention to the fact that the greatest destruction occurred in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, making it currently impossible to determine the real number of victims and those affected. According to available estimates, at least tens of thousands of people suffered the consequences of the disaster.

“Russia must be held accountable for the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP and for all crimes committed during the war against Ukraine,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
