From July 1, Ukrainian drivers will see new fuel designations at gas stations. Ukraine is switching to the European system of gasoline and diesel labeling, which involves the use of biological components in petroleum products, reports AvtoMangal.

It is stated that after the new rules come into effect, gasoline will be labeled as E5 or E10, and diesel fuel as B7. These designations reflect the maximum allowable share of bio-additives in the fuel. In particular, E5 gasoline contains up to 5% bioethanol, E10 up to 10%, and diesel fuel B7 can have up to 7% biodiesel.

Experts note that E10 gasoline is compatible with most cars produced after 2011. At the same time, for older models, especially those with carburetor engines, it is recommended to use E5. The recommended type of fuel can be checked in the vehicle's technical documentation or on the fuel tank cap.

The transition to new labeling is part of the implementation of European Union directives. In addition, the changes are intended to stimulate the development of bioethanol production in Ukraine and help reduce import dependence.

Experts do not expect a significant impact on fuel prices. At the same time, E10 gasoline may potentially be cheaper than E5 due to a higher content of alcohol components. The update of labeling at gas stations will take place gradually.

In turn, the director of the A-95 Consulting Group, Serhiy Kuyun, responding to a question from "RBC-Ukraine" about whether drivers will see new labels at gas stations after July 1, stated: "It is necessary to clarify regulatory requirements, but basically, if the fuel meets the standard, it does not require separate labeling as 'non-standard.' Probably, basic designations like A-95 will remain, but with a specification of the composition."

Earlier, the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper" wrote that gasoline at Ukrainian gas stations should not become more expensive after the introduction from July 1, 2026, of the mandatory norm to add at least 7% bioethanol to gasoline according to the E10 standard. Some gas station networks already sell fuel with bioethanol without increasing the cost, and in some places, it is cheaper than regular gasoline.
