Butter belongs to food products that require strict adherence to storage and sales conditions. Violations of the temperature regime, failure to follow transportation rules, or improper labeling can negatively affect both the quality and safety of the product for consumers. This was reported by the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

The agency reminds that when buying butter, it is important to carefully check not only its appearance but also the information indicated on the packaging.

What to pay attention to when buying

Storage conditions

Butter must be stored and sold exclusively in refrigerated equipment, maintaining the temperature regime specified by the manufacturer. The product should not be kept outside of cooling conditions.

Product labeling

According to legislation, the packaging must necessarily indicate: the product name, composition, production date, expiration date, storage conditions, manufacturer details, and fat content. The full list of requirements is defined by Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine "On Information for Consumers Regarding Food Products."

Packaging condition

The packaging must be intact, clean, without damage, deformation, or signs of reopening.

Place of purchase

Experts advise avoiding the purchase of food products in places of spontaneous or unauthorized trade, as storage conditions and quality control are not guaranteed there.

Additional information for consumers

If butter is sold by weight, the consumer has the right to request complete information about the product. The market operator is obliged to provide data on the name, manufacturer, composition, shelf life, and storage conditions in an accessible form.

The State Service emphasizes that quality butter must be sold in compliance with temperature requirements, have proper labeling, and comply with legislative norms regarding food safety.

In case of doubts about the quality or safety of the product, as well as if the business entity refuses to resolve the issue, the consumer can file an official complaint to the territorial body of the State Service in their region.
