In Lviv region, a dog was hanged in the forest – the neighbor of the animal's owner is suspected of the murder
The police of Lviv region are investigating a case of animal cruelty in Sheptytskyi district, which resulted in the death of a dog.
According to the police, on June 17, a 44-year-old resident of one of the villages in the district reported that the body of a dog was found hanging from a tree by a rope in a forest area near the settlement.
At the scene, law enforcement officers preliminarily established that a 54-year-old local resident, who is the neighbor of the animal's owner, may be involved in the incident. According to the investigation, the man hanged the dog on a tree by wrapping a rope around its neck, which caused the animal's death.
Under the procedural guidance of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor's Office, a criminal case has been opened under Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (cruel treatment of animals).
The article's sanction provides for punishment – restriction of liberty for a term of one to three years or imprisonment for a term of two to three years with confiscation of the animal.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
