The Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov responded to the decision of the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki regarding the stripping of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.

In his statement, Budanov noted that he considers this move unfriendly towards the Ukrainian people and something that could be used by Russia for its own informational purposes. He emphasized the importance of maintaining partnership relations between Ukraine and Poland despite the presence of difficult pages in their shared history.

The Head of the Presidential Office also stated that every country has the right to its own historical memory and approach to evaluating historical events. At the same time, he expressed disagreement with the Polish side's decision and questioned its fairness.

Moreover, Budanov announced his refusal of the Gold Officer's Cross of the Order "For Merit to Poland," which he was awarded last year. According to him, this decision is a reaction to the situation surrounding the Ukrainian President.

Budanov emphasized that Ukraine will give its own assessment of this situation but will continue to build relations with allies based on open, equal partnership and mutual respect.

He also stressed that Ukraine will continue to play a key role in protecting European security, including Poland, by continuing to resist Russian aggression and suffering significant losses in this struggle.

Recall that the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki made the decision to strip Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle. This is the highest state award of Poland and one of the oldest orders in the world. It was presented to Zelenskyy by former President Andrzej Duda on April 5, 2023 for merits in strengthening Polish-Ukrainian relations and cooperation between the countries.
