The State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine has launched an internal investigation following the spread of a video from the Odessa pre-trial detention center, which shows a possible human rights violation.

A video circulating online allegedly depicts a former employee of the territorial recruitment and social support center. In the footage, the man is forced to carry slippers with his teeth.

The State Criminal-Executive Service reported that an internal investigation has already begun regarding the publication of the video.

"In the video posted online, unlawful actions are being committed against a citizen by individuals who are in the same cell with him," the agency stated.

They emphasized that there is currently no expert conclusion on the authenticity of the video. Meanwhile, during the investigation, the leadership of the Odessa pre-trial detention center has been suspended from their duties.

A team from the management of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Punishments has also been sent to the facility to check for possible human rights violations and to clarify all circumstances of the incident.

The State Criminal-Executive Service added that the investigation will be conducted jointly with other law enforcement agencies within the legally established timeframe, and its results will be published upon completion.

The agency stressed that the Ministry of Justice and the State Criminal-Executive Service respond to facts of possible human rights violations in places of detention, especially if it concerns unlawful actions by the staff of penal institutions.
