Military personnel who do not sign new contracts will serve until demobilization — Ministry of Defense
Deputy Minister of Defense Mstyslav Banik stated that servicemen who do not want to sign the new contracts proposed by the Ministry of Defense will serve until the general demobilization. He said this during a briefing.
According to him, the monetary allowance will be the same for both contract soldiers and mobilized personnel.
“So, if we talk about an infantry contract soldier and a mobilized soldier sitting side by side in the same trench, the pay will be the same, only the contract soldier will go home after 10 months and receive a deferment, while the mobilized soldier will continue to serve until the announcement of the general demobilization,” he said.
The deputy minister also emphasized that demobilization is not currently being discussed, as it is “only possible after the end of the war.”
He also assured that a gradual release of people from military service will take place. “But this will be worked out closer to the end of the year,” Banik said.
“Can a person now estimate when exactly they will be discharged from service? Not yet. But our idea is that if we talk about soldiers, sergeants, for example, who serve the longest, if they sign all our contracts now or remain in their current positions, when their turn to be discharged comes — they will be discharged,” he added.
Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine published a Resolution on introducing contracts with clear service terms. From June 15, 2026, new infantry-assault, combat, or basic contracts for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and other components of the Defense Forces can be concluded.
Additionally, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov announced details of the new military service contract system, which will provide a guaranteed deferment after the contract ends. Its duration will depend on the type of contract, previous length of service, and the serviceman’s participation in combat operations.
The Ministry of Defense also revealed details of the new monetary allowance system for servicemen and the introduction of three types of contracts.
Recall that Deputy Minister of Defense Mstyslav Banik stated that officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not planned to be discharged under the general demobilization model, as the officer corps is one of the key personnel resources of the army.
