The fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also decided to refuse the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
He called the decision of the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki regarding Volodymyr Zelenskyy mistaken and unfair to the Ukrainian people.
According to Petro Poroshenko, the award was given not to presidents, but to Ukrainians and Ukrainian military personnel.
“Those in Poland who do not regurgitate historical myths, but study history and draw conclusions from its lessons, know that after Ukraine loses its independence, Poland loses it as well. But the past should not determine our relations. I do not want Poles to edit our textbooks and in no way do I claim that we Ukrainians should correct Polish textbooks, otherwise we will be sent a joint textbook from Moscow,” he said.
Earlier, the third President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko also decided to refuse the Polish Order of the White Eagle as a sign of disagreement with the decision to award the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In addition, the second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma also refused his Order of the White Eagle.
As previously reported by the "Judicial and Legal Newspaper", the President of Poland Karol Nawrocki deprived Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.
On June 20, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he sent this order by mail to Karol Nawrocki.
Additionally, the head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov refused the Golden Officer's Cross of the Order "For Merit to Poland."
Moreover, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Bodnar announced the decision to return the Polish state award — the Knight's Cross of the Order "For Merit to the Republic of Poland."
